Terms of use
These terms apply to the website hookabet.com and the learning app at app.hookabet.com (“Hookabet”). By using Hookabet you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use it.
The service
Hookabet teaches you to read new alphabets, and then words, using memory hooks written for your own language. It is free. We work to keep it running and correct, but we may change it, add or remove courses, or pause it, and we can’t promise it will always be available.
Your account
- The app creates an anonymous account on your device when you start. Until you link a Google account, your progress lives only in that browser: if you clear its data or lose the device, we have no way to restore it.
- If you link Google, you are responsible for keeping that Google account secure.
- You can delete your account at any time: see Delete your account.
- Anonymous accounts in which no answer was ever given are removed after 30 days.
Using it fairly
Please don’t:
- use bots or scripts to like hooks, create accounts or send answers;
- try to get into other people’s accounts, or into parts of the service you aren’t meant to reach;
- disrupt the service, or overload it with automated requests;
- copy the course content to build a competing product.
We may limit or close accounts that do these things.
Content
The memory hooks, drawings, sounds and texts on Hookabet belong to Hookabet or to the people who licensed them to us. You may use them for your own learning, and share links to any page. Please don’t republish them in bulk without our permission. The typefaces are used under the SIL Open Font License 1.1; other credits are listed in the app.
Your likes and answers help us find out which hooks work. You allow us to use them, in anonymised form, to improve the course.
No guarantees
Hookabet is provided “as is”. We do our best to make the content accurate, but we can’t guarantee that every letter, sound or translation is free of mistakes, or that the service is free of errors. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect losses, or for losing progress kept only in your browser. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have as a consumer that can’t be limited by contract.
Changes
If these terms change, we update this page and the date at the bottom. If you keep using Hookabet after that, the new terms apply.
